Jason Wright to Transition to Senior Adviser Role After 2024 Season
Jason Wright, the transformative leader who has guided the Washington Commanders through a momentous period of change, will be stepping down from his current role following the 2024 season. Wright, who made history as the first Black president of an NFL team, will assume a new position as a senior adviser, with a primary focus on securing the completion of the Commanders' new stadium deal.
Since starting with the Commanders in 2020, Wright's impact on the organization has been profound. He took the helm when the team was still known as the Washington Football Team and played a pivotal role in its rebranding to the Washington Commanders in 2022. During Wright's tenure, the Commanders also saw a significant change in ownership, transitioning from Dan Snyder to Josh Harris, further underscoring the era of transformation under his leadership.
"Given all those accomplishments, that's why I am proud to announce I will remain with the team throughout the 2024-2025 season, with the same responsibilities," Wright said. "In particular, I look forward to helping the organization complete its new stadium deal."
Wright's tenure has been marked by numerous achievements amidst substantial challenges. Under his guidance, the franchise has seen a resurgence in fan engagement, with record numbers of supporters returning to games. He has been instrumental in making meaningful improvements to the fan experience, re-establishing corporate relationships, and reconnecting the team with the community. The culture within the organization has also vastly improved, with Wright emphasizing respect and professional conduct.
"I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished over the past four years," Wright stated. "Together with an amazing team of professionals, we have taken this franchise through a period of immense challenge and uncertainty and have transformed it. We've set the table for an incredibly bright future under Josh's leadership. Over just the past year, we've welcomed record numbers of fans back into our building, made meaningful improvements to the fan experience, re-engaged with corporate partners, and reconnected with the community. Most importantly, we re-established a culture of respect in this organization."
As he prepares to step down, Wright reflects on his journey with gratitude and optimism for the Commanders' future. "This feels like the right moment for me to explore my next leadership opportunity," he said. "I'm extremely grateful to my Commanders colleagues, our fans, and this community for all that we have accomplished these past four years, and am looking forward to the start of a very successful season for the Burgundy and Gold."
Wright's leadership and vision have not only guided the Commanders through a significant rebranding but have also fostered a renewed sense of pride and community among fans and stakeholders. His next challenge may lie with the Green Bay Packers, as he is a finalist for the team’s presidency, a testament to his growing reputation in the NFL.
Everyone involved with the Commanders can look back at Wright's tenure with a sense of accomplishment. His efforts have laid a robust foundation for continued success and transformation under the current ownership and future leadership. As Wright transitions to his new role, his influence and contributions will undoubtedly continue to resonate throughout the organization.
