Walker Buehler Returns to the Injured List

Walker Buehler Returns to the Injured List

Walker Buehler, a vital asset to the Dodgers' rotation, is heading back to the injured list due to right hip inflammation. This marks another setback in a career recently plagued by injuries. Buehler missed most of the 2022 season and the entirety of 2023 following his second Tommy John surgery.

Between 2018 and 2021, Buehler was a cornerstone for the Dodgers, winning 39 games and never posting an ERA above 3.44. His performances were integral to the team's successes during those years.

2024 Struggles After Comeback

Unfortunately, Buehler's return to the mound in 2024 hasn't gone as smoothly as hoped. Since May 8, he has recorded a 1-4 record with a 5.84 ERA over eight starts. His most recent outing in Colorado highlighted his struggles, where he took a line drive off the hip but continued to pitch. Buehler ended up surrendering seven runs on seven hits, including two home runs. According to Dodgers' manager Dave Roberts, his hip had been sore for several starts, prompting the decision to place him on the injured list to regroup both physically and mentally.

Bobby Miller Activated

In response to Buehler’s injury, the Dodgers have activated Bobby Miller. Miller's absence from the mound dates back to April 10 due to right shoulder inflammation. Now in his second major league season, Miller has shown promise. This year, he holds a 1-1 record with a 5.40 ERA over three starts. His rookie year in 2023 was impressive and his return adds a much-needed depth to the Dodgers' pitching staff, which has been significantly affected by injuries.

Looking Forward

Despite recent difficulties, Buehler's career statistics remain impressive. Over the course of seven seasons, he has accumulated a 47-20 record with a 3.17 ERA. The Dodgers are optimistic that a period of rest will help Buehler return to his top form. His resilience and dedication to the team's future are unquestionable.

Injuries are an inevitable aspect of Major League Baseball, and the Dodgers have demonstrated depth and flexibility in managing these challenges. Bobby Miller stepping up is a testament to this depth, helping to cover for the loss of Buehler.

Dave Roberts commented on Buehler's situation, saying, "I think [he's] a little bit sort of finding himself again. I think he's still in search mode. So, as he's getting back to health, I think for the mind and some clarity, I think this will be a good thing."

Buehler himself has expressed his determination to come back stronger. "It sucks to feel kind of invaluable, or like you're hampering your team. At the end of the day, we really like our team and want to be ready for the end of the year. And I'm going to do whatever I need to do to feel like I can help our team at the end of the year, and do everything in my power to be valuable enough to be on those rosters," he said.

All eyes will undoubtedly be on Walker Buehler's recovery and return. For now, the Dodgers will rely on their depth and the promising talent of Bobby Miller to navigate these challenging times
